Good interaction of ideas. Don't quit on the book.

I would commend this book to those who want to examine the options about America's Christian religious heritage. Here's why:

1. The four contributors are all respectful of the impact of Christianity on the country. There is no hostility toward the idea of a Christian heritage as I've seen at times.

2. One name that will come up often in this discussion, whether you read this book or not, is David Barton. He contributes the chapter on America as Distinctly Christian. His view is interacted with and critiqued by other historical scholars who see both strengths and weaknesses in his methods. This chapter is worth the book because his voice is one of the loudest on this subject. He makes his case clearly here, and people who are not his enemies offer critique of it.

3. The book does not shy away from a contribution that asserts no clear Christian intention in the founding of the country. One contributor, Jonathan Sassi, puts forth evidence that the Founders, while they may have been Christians themselves, purposely insulated the government from even their own beliefs.

4. The interplay between ideas is demonstrated. The rebuttals are not simply restatements of opposition, but actually engaging with the ideas presented.

5. The authors have generally dialed down presenting agenda and focused on the history.

In all, unless you are already completely staked out on one view, you'll find this volume helpful.

Sanjay Kumar, Ph.D. (IIT Delhi) is Air Commodore at IAF, 9BRD, Pune, India. He has over thirty years of rich professional experience as an Engineering Officer in IAF. He has held various key technical and command appointments in field formations and headquarters of IAF. He had been on deputation to various labs of DRDO as designer, developer and Principal Advisor of various IAF projects, and Program Director of Electronic Warfare Project of lead aircraft. Dr. Sanjay Kumar is the member of IIT Delhi Alumni Association and lifetime member of IETE, Delhi, India. He had been question paper setter, teacher and evaluator of Research Methodology at Osmania University, Hyderabad, India for three years during his posting as Head of Faculty of Electronic Warfare, IT and Technology, at CAW, AF Hyderabad (2007). He is recipient of AVM Harijinder Singh trophy for the best academic performance at AFTC, Bangalore, India. This could be a very good book, however mathematical symbology, such as the curl operations symbol, are mangled or missing from equations. I think that Amazon could do a better job of editing prior to offering for sale online.

About the Author
Tinnean has been writing since the third grade, where she was inspired to try her hand at epic poetry. Fortunately, that epic poem didn’t survive the passage of time; however, her love of writing not only survived but thrived, and in high school she became a member of the magazine staff, where she contributed a number of stories. It was with the advent of the family’s second computer—the first intimidated everyone—that her writing took off, enhanced in part by fanfiction, but mostly by the wonder that is copy and paste. While involved in fandom, she was nominated for both Rerun and Light My Fire Awards. Now she concentrates on her original characters, and recent novels have received honorable mention in the 2013, 2014, and 2015 Rainbow Awards. Two of the 2014 novels were actually finalists. A New Yorker at heart, she resides in SW Florida with her husband, two computers, and a Surface 3. Ernest Hemingway’s words reflect Tinnean’s devotion to her craft: “Once writing has become your major vice and greatest pleasure, only death can stop it.”

Not the smoothest start

I love Tinnean, she's a favorite author. I haven't read everything she's written, just because of my own subject preferences. I did, of course, become addicted to the Spy vs. Spook/Mann of My Dreams series. This story, unfortunately, didn't quite live up to my expectations.

This three part book intersects with Mark and Quinn's universe. The first two parts were a bit slow and bland. It did set up the new characters but so much was skimmed or glossed over with Rush and Tad's relationship development. Part two was also rather confusing with Jan's character and Billy Bob/Ragg Mopp (and that's all I'll say about that name). Then part three was very convoluted with the appearance of a plethora of characters. Billy Bob's sudden turn from clueless straight boy to GFY was far too abrupt.

I know there are more books to come, since so many plot threads were left hanging. Not a cliffhanger but not a conclusion. Since there was so much written about the characters in this book, I certainly hope they'll continue to appear. I'd like to know if there's a reason one of the secondary characters was killed off.

It was written in true Tinnean style. I did note a number of editing errors but not enough to annoy. It did not feel like a comprehensive and logical plot to me though. You would need to read the S vs. S books and the Light in Your Eyes books to understand all the references. If read as a stand-alone, I think it will be even more confusing. I will remain loyal and continue to read the follow up stories!

Pin ups Taschen 365 day Perpetual calendar book

This is a nice book. Taschen has in my experience always produced a quality product. For those interested in old pin up drawings from the masters of they past, they may enjoy this. The format is a calendar date per day with associated pinup art. There is also a caption or inscription associated with each day. There is no year marking so it can be used from year to year. it contains many familiar and some unfamiliar artworks from the many works of classic pin up art.

Taschen Has Done It Again

A book that is very hard not to like, Taschen has done it again. Every day has one full color pin-up, either a classic illustration such as an Elvgren or a Moran, or a vintage photograph. For each date is a saucy quip from various women, writers, and actresses, of various levels of fame or infamy. The birthday of famous women are noted for each day as well. Especially helpful is the built in cloth bookmark so you can peruse it every day without losing your page. I am working my way through my copy in real time, a page a day. No matter how one reads this beautiful book, the experience is quite rewarding.

Right to the point -- the perfect manual for GarageBand!

I bought several books on how GarageBand works and while some had some helpful hints, the author of this book, Bob LeVitus, knows what he's talking about. Every sentence and page has valuable advice on how this thing, "GarageBand", really works. He also includes the limitations of GarageBand and alternative software suggestions for more elaborate recording needs. The author is very knowledgable about home-studio recording and he has excellent suggestions on microphones, speakers, and inexpensive technical gear incl. audio interfaces, etc. that will make your recording project a professional adventure. This book is so interesting and has so many useful tips, etc. that everyone playing around with GarageBand should read it in order to easily use this Apple application and to get the most out of it -- saving you a lot of frustration at the same time.

In South Side Girls Marcia Chatelain recasts Chicago's Great Migration through the lens of black girls. Focusing on the years between 1910 and 1940, when Chicago's black population quintupled, Chatelain describes how Chicago's black social scientists, urban reformers, journalists and activists formulated a vulnerable image of urban black girlhood that needed protecting. Reformatting this book would have made it more fun to read.

The unique subject of this book promised interesting reading, however, it reads like a doctoral thesis. One can see all the work that went into this informative book by the pages of preface, footnotes, other sources and index. If the book was reformatted to read like a novel, it would have been easier and more fun to read.

Very well researched

I read this book as a reading for a book club. This is not that type of book. This is a book that is read as a snippet of a college course on the history of African American mores, a sociological description of the transition of AA families from the South to the North, etc. However, this is not a book that one would read for pleasure. That said, the author's effort to bring to light the array of stories for the girls found within these pages cannot be faulted on that account. Nevertheless, were I to add a chapter, it would be entitled, "Internal Classicism." I would like to know how so many families, with so many mouths to feed, while still sending "remittances" to the South, could afford the luxury of recreational activities for girls and what girls were these? Were these the future Michelle Obamas?
