Lack of Explanations

This book does a very poor job of explaining a complex subject. My general experience with physicists is that they expect students to just get it, and the author seems to have the same mindset. The book encourages the student to apply fundamental principles rather than just using a formula, but no effort is given to teaching the student how to arrive at this mindset. Hence, me and my classmates continue to view physics as an exercise in memorizing formulas rather than learning how to solve problems.
The online homework that accompanies this book also leaves much to be desired. Throughout the book, emphasis is placed on "estimating" and calculating a general result, while the online homework will require additional precision beyond what is allowed by significant figure rules.
If you are a professor considering using this book, please do your students a favor and use someone else.

In 1921, Paul Amadeus Dienach, a Swiss-Austrian teacher with fragile health, falls into a one-year-long coma. During this time, his consciousness slides into the future and enters the body of another man in 3906 A.D.

When Dienach awakens from his coma, he finds himself back in 1922. Knowing that he doesn't have much time left, he writes a diary, recording whatever he could remember from his amazing experience: the mankind’s history in the forthcoming centuries, from the nightmare of overpopulation and World Wars up until the world-changing globalisation, the radical new administration system, the colony on Mars and the next human evolutionary stage. Without any close friends and relatives to entrust, he doesn't say a word to anyone out of fear of being branded a lunatic.

Before he dies, he hands his diary to his favourite student, George Papachatzis, later prominent Professor of Law and Rector of Panteion University of Greece. The diary circulates as hidden knowledge amongst high ranking masons in the lodges of Athens. In 1972, professor Papachatzis, despite an intense dispute, decides to publish Dienach’s diary in Greek.

Paul Dienach was not an author, poet, or professional writer. Rather, he was an ordinary man who kept a journal, never with the expectation that it would be published.

This unique and controversial book, a universal legacy, is now carefully edited, translated and available to everyone.

About the Author
Achilleas Sirigos was born in Athens on 24th May 1973. He undertook a Law degree at Athens University and fulfilled his childhood dream by becoming a sportscaster at SKAI TV at the age of 21. Since 1994 he has written more than 1.000 articles in the biggest Greek magazines and newspapers (including interviews with Paolo Coehlo, Michael Jordan, Luc Besson, Professor Nanopoulos and many others). In addition he has edited 2 books, hosted TV and radio shows and worked in more than 50 prime time TV shows as an executive producer, project manager or editor in chief, aired by the biggest TV stations in Greece (MEGA, ANT1, STAR, SKAI, ALPHA). He has also worked with all the leading Production Companies in Greece (ENA Productions, ANOSI, Studio Ata, On Productions, Plus) as project manager and creator of TV formats. After working for more than two years on the scripts of Paul Amadeus Dienach, he decided to publish worldwide the new edition of Dienach's original Diary Pages, which was formerly available only in Greece. This legendary book, which was originally given to him by his brother, is now the centerfold of his life and he is determined to share this world heritage with as many readers as possible.

Enlightening and eye-opening

This was a very enlightening read. Whether or not this is a true account of the future or a strange metaphysical event with other explanations, the book sets out in fascinating detail what will (or could) happen over the course of the next two millennia. Some of it is shocking but most of it offers hope for humanity at a time in which there is little. It seems impossible to fathom a world without wars, poverty, or people working like slaves - how could such an outcome ever happen? This diary sets out exactly how it CAN happen. While some of the apparent future events are nothing less than disastrous, I can only hope that the rest of it - the evolution of mankind to a new and peaceful way of being - becomes a reality.

This is a truly interesting read. Is a spiritual journey to the future. Irrelevant if is a true story or not. The dream is beautiful the colors are bright and the story unique. The message is positive the future is bright, beyond imagination. If true there is nothing to be afraid, just relax and enjoy.
Strongly recommend as an odd, intriguing mental experience.

Fantastic Story, Could Hardly Wait to Keep Reading

My 11 year old son and I read every night. This is our second Will Hobbs story and we are completely hooked. I have looked for a long time for an author that appeals to him and Hobbs is certainly it. My son struggles to read. It sure helps to have subject matter that he enjoys. My son is the sporty, hunting & fishing kind of guy. This story is about two teenage boys that wind up stranded in the "Far North" Canadian wilderness with an older man. The things these three do to survive are amazing and realistic. I was explaining this book to a friend who is an Alaskan hunter and he was amazed at the accuracy of the hunting descriptions. We struggle to put this book down when we need to go to sleep. THANK YOU WILL HOBBS!! You are so helping my son to become a better reader. I just ordered a bunch more of Hobbs' books which are currently on 4 for 3 specials here on amazon. Thank you Amazon!

I loved the book from the beginning. It has a lot of action and adventure. It is also full of history. I couldn't put the book down. It was an easy, but EXCELLENT book to read. I would highly recommend this book to anyone.

Great Read!!!

I bought this book to use in a literature unit with two 8th-grade homeschoolers, one an avid reader, and the other a very reluctant reader. The book was a hit with both! The reluctant reader even started reading ahead on his own because he wanted to find out how the story turned out. The story stimulated some great discussions on literary technique (foreshadowing, cliffhangers), social and cultural ideas, wilderness survival, making choices, and gaining maturity through adversity. There were also lots of opporunities to expand the boys' vocabulary.

We highly recommend this book!!

But there is another "The Taking Tree" by another writer and with an orange book cover that is much better. I love the other book -- I bought this one accidentally thinking it was the other. It's not as good.

Timothy F. Peterson, CFA, CAIA, CIPM is a Partner with Ashland Partners & Company, LLP, a global investment-specialist CPA firm, providing audit and consulting services to hundreds of hedge funds, private equity and real estate firms, RIA's, investment companies, and insurance companies worldwide. Prior to joining Ashland Partners, Timothy served as the CFO for a Houston-based financial firm where he had responsibility for co-managing an option based hedging strategy as well as the firm s real estate portfolio. Other experience includes serving as Global Head of Performance and Attribution for an international asset management firm, and as Director of Performance Reporting for a leading national SMA wrap fee investment manager.

Timothy is a dual graduate of the University of Colorado where he earned a Master of Science Degree in Finance as well as a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Economics. He is a Chartered Financial Analyst, a Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst, and has earned the Certificate in Investment Performance Measurement.

Timothy is an investment performance measurement expert with specialization in alternative assets. He has been involved with examination grading and curriculum review for all three of the designations he holds: CFA, CAIA, and CIPM. Professional volunteer work also includes serving on the REIS Council, chair of the REIS Compliance working group, chair of the REIS Performance Measurement Resource Manual working group, member of the REIS Implementation Survey working group, and Treasurer for the CU Boulder Alumni Association Board of Directors. Timothy has authored numerous papers and articles and has spoken at conferences around the world on topics such as valuation policy, performance reporting practices, and internal controls.

A new approach to pain

Good information and strategies for managing pain - manage being the operative word here. Once you accept that there's no side-effect free silver bullet to getting rid of chronic pain, this provides a good framework for managing it, and your life - to a tolerable level.
A solid, straight-shooting guide with a good approach. The presentation is rather clinical, but it works well in this context.
For someone who decided to eschew strong pain medicine, this provided a clear direction out.

I cannot reccommend this book highly enough for anyone who suffers from back pain, or even any chronic pain.

Doesn't work for me

Sorry, but this book seems pie in the sky. I am in intense pain 24/7 and cannot be treated adequately for it, and this book is unrealistic in the extreme. If I findit necessary, as I do, to spend half of every day curled up like snail in bed reading, and the res tof the day wearing a back support belt, then that is what I am going to do. New agethinking doesn't work forme.
